The Raven

Recently, in my American Literature class, we have been reading and discussing many poems.Because I am not a person who is “poemic,” rather, I enjoy reading tons of stories instead. I thought I would struggle with this poem section of our course, and I have.Poems are a very difficult subject for me. I hate how authors say what they are trying to say in only a few words. Therefore, I never have any idea what an author is saying whenever I read poems. However, the poem called 'The Raven', by Edgar Allan Poe, changed my preconception.

Unlike other poems, 'The Raven' had a large number of words, which help me to focus on the poem. The way that the author expressed his feeling through his meaningless actions and the repeated answers of the raven came freshly to me. My favorite part of the poem is when the mood of the author changed when he has a "conversation" with the raven. As he keeps asking the questions to the raven, he realizes his inside feelings that he cannot forget his love, Lenore, and his feeling changes to anger. I was amazed how he used raven to show his mood and his inside sadness.
