Success

To me, success means to become an expert of the job that I choose, which I do not know yet. It is being an icon or the one who pops into  people's minds when they talk about the topic of the job I am doing. At the same time, the most important thing is that when they think about me, they should have a smile on their faces instead of having a face that says 'omg I hate that person.' People who do well in their jobs and give positive energy to people is a successful person.

Jim Rohn's speech about the success was great. The things that he stated: people need to care about their health, practice everyday, first study and second practice, etc. All of them are the important things that will become the foundation of success. Little things that we might be careless about are actually becoming a big part of life. Little actions and behaviors add up to good habits, which is a big part of a human activity.

The Raven

Recently, in my American Literature class, we have been reading and discussing many poems.Because I am not a person who is “poemic,” rather, I enjoy reading tons of stories instead. I thought I would struggle with this poem section of our course, and I have.Poems are a very difficult subject for me. I hate how authors say what they are trying to say in only a few words. Therefore, I never have any idea what an author is saying whenever I read poems. However, the poem called 'The Raven', by Edgar Allan Poe, changed my preconception.

Unlike other poems, 'The Raven' had a large number of words, which help me to focus on the poem. The way that the author expressed his feeling through his meaningless actions and the repeated answers of the raven came freshly to me. My favorite part of the poem is when the mood of the author changed when he has a "conversation" with the raven. As he keeps asking the questions to the raven, he realizes his inside feelings that he cannot forget his love, Lenore, and his feeling changes to anger. I was amazed how he used raven to show his mood and his inside sadness.

Book Review : Dr. Heidegger's Experiment

Recently, in our literature class, we read a short story called "Dr. Heidegger's experiment." Talking about this story, actually I really enjoyed reading doing the homework questions. The plot of the story   , the characters, and settings were all interesting. Basically this story is about the four friends of Dr. Heidegger, who drink the Fountain of Youth, which made them young. The experiment was promoted by Dr.Heidegger, who just see that how the experiment goes. After the four friends got young, they acted exactly like when they were in young age. Which was not a very good attitude. The shocked part was that in the end of the story, after they turns to their real appearance, the four friend go immediately to florida where the Fountain of Youth was from.

Even though the four friends,Widow Wycherly, Mr. Medbourne, Colonel Killigrew, and Mr. Gascoigne, spent their young age period, they still wanted to go back. They were not happy about the current appearance and situations. However, as they turned young physically, they stared to act as same as when they are young. At the same time, They could not rewind and recover their mistakes in the past. Also, as they came back to their original appearance , because they could not forget the young, they went to Florida. Why would people could not accept the way they are? I think it is really important to live the life in the current situation and just love what we have now. That way, we will not regret on our present days, when we get old. Even though you can change the things as the past, but you can never ever rewind the time.

Istituto Centrale per il Restauro (ICR)

Istituto Centrale per il Restauro is a restoration university in Rome, Italy. It does not have different majors, but only the restoration of the artifact.

Unlikely the other major university, the process of education takes 4 years. First year to the third year are focused on the practice and learning theory, and in the senior year, they write the papers. Mostly students are the age of 18 to 30 and it only pick 20 students every year.

The interesting thing about this school is that they never use the fake artifact to practice, but they always use the real artifacts in class. The professor said this was to make students to feel the realistic feelings and let them to feel the sanctity of the artifacts. Of course, the important artifact goes to professors. The Last Judgement by MichaelAngelo was restored by this school.

All the classes are taught in Italian, mostly the restoration goes with one professor and 20 students. Sometimes they include biologists and architects when they need. Also, have outdoor classes when they need to restore the architectures.

Creating Children's Book

I have created a children's book on topic "Teach your Children Well" after I read the interesting Life of Olaudah Equiano which is about the experience of the slavery. Therefore, I wrote a story about a slavery that children could easily understand the idea of slavery.

Eddie could not fell asleep. He thought of his family who will be waiting for him to come home. He missed them a lot. “I should not be captured here. ”He mumbled. He thought about the thing that happened to him this morning.

He was so afraid. In the darkness, Eddie kept cried and cried.   He did not know what to do.  He strongly wished to get out of this place where hundreds of people laid down just like him, nearly attached to each other.

Assuming long hours have passed, when Eddie noticed that the old man next to him was awake, he asked him carefully and quietly. “Do you know any idea where we are going?” when the old man turned his head to Eddie’s face, Eddie was shocked. The old man had a grumpiest face that Eddie has ever seen before. “Have no idea where we are going!” he shouted. “We just have to work for those evil white people out there!” Eddie still did not know what he was talking about.

Days passed, the smell of the place even got worse and screams of hunger made Eddie frightened. Suddenly, he heard a noise from way left to him, where was the old man was. Because the noises seemed something terrible thing has happened, Eddie quickly closed his eyes. “The man died.” The old said. It was a first time to Eddie to hear the death. He could not believe it. Eddie thought that he could be the one who can be like the dead man.

His sight was very dark. He closed his eyes slowly. Only ocean sound was waving out the ship.

Next morning, Eddie and other slaves got to get out of the under the ship. The sun was too bright for Eddie to see that he barely opened his eyes. When he opened his eyes, he saw the land. He was so happy to see it. As the ship went near the land, Eddie saw a bunch of people who look just like him lining up. Eddie was so happy to see them but all of their faces looked sad.

Mumbled: v. talking not clearly – usually in the low voice
Attached: adj. connected; joined
Assuming: v. take to be the case or to be true
Grumpiest: adj. annoyed ; irritable
Barely: adv. hardly

(Underlined words are for the children who might not know the words.)

Thank you!

My first post

I am interested in art works that show the real people as a funny cartoon. It usually combines the real people and the existing cartoon characters. Here is one of the artist who I really like to introduce to you. Check out her website! minakwon.com

I think I am going to choose chemistry as my science fair subject. I did not decide the exact topic for it, but I want to see what happens to the different cloth effect.

After I read "The interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano", I felt quite sad about the main character who is living a slave life. One day, I deeply thought of how the life could be when I am in the same situation as him. I think I could never survive in there!
